Why Cant I Get Pregnant?

One would think that being able to have a baby is a very natural thing to do. For some women it can be but or others, trying to conceive can be very difficult. In fact for couple trying to have their first baby, this is can be a very stressful time after many repeated failure. At least 20% of couples planning to have a baby will have trouble conceiving. Here are three basic things you can do to increase your chances of getting pregnant.
1. See Your Doctor For a Preconception Checkup
This is an important step. Get a Pap smear and ovulation tests and have your partner to do a sperm count test. Some people see this as an optional step, it is not. Knowing that you and your partner are healthy and fertile put you in a good state of mind for the important task at hand.
2. Know Your Ovulation Cycle
The best time to try and get pregnant is when you ovulate. A woman with very regular 28-day cycles can just count 14 days from the first day of their period to determine the ovulation date. You ovulate 2 consecutive days between 10-16 days after the first day of each period.
If you have irregular periods, it is better to use an ovulation kit to help you pinpoint within a day when you ovulate. Remember, you cant get pregnant outside your fertility period. Monitoring cervical mucus is another way to track ovulation but it's not as reliable as a kit and some women find this method a little inconvenient.
For women just coming off the pill, please remember that it can take a while for your body to regain regular period and it will take a while before you can conceive naturally.
3. Have Regularly Intercourse
If you have a normal, regular 28-30 day cycle, you will want to start having intercourse 10 days after the first day of your last period, and continue every other day until day 16. If you know your partner have low sperm count then I would say every other day is best.
The missionary position seems to be the best position for getting pregnant. This position allows deepest penetration. Put pillow under your bottom and after you have intercourse and stay on your back for about twenty minutes. This helps the slow swimming sperm to move through your uterus.
Your partner should avoid hot water and tight fitting underwear. If possible, making love early in the morning or afternoon can also increase the chances of conceiving, as the sperm levels are highest in the mornings.
How long will it take to get pregnant? This is hard to say as a woman's ability to conceive is affected by many factors. In general, it may take up to one year for a healthy couple to conceive. You have about 25% chance each cycle trying to achieve pregnancy, everything have to be in the right place for you to conceive, your health, your lifestyle, your age etc. It just takes time for some couples. Get to know your body cycle and have regular intercourse during your most fertile period to increase your chances of getting pregnant.
